I liked everything except for the Sylar stuff. That was the biggest pile of revisionist clap-trap I've ever seen. So now Sylar's the unwitting victim, and HRG is the mustache twirling villain. What ever happened to shades of gray? The Sylar thing was much more interesting when he started out as a ruthless villain, we found out it was an addiction that was driving him, and no matter how hard he tries to redeem himself, he's not accepted. That's a tragic story. Now we find out that he was already in control of it and HRG "created" him. Why was that necessary? And what about HRG? He was a classic "shades of gray" character. Doing anything to protect his daughter... no limits. Or at least that was his excuse. You never really knew whether he was simply protecting Claire, or had some hidden agenda for wanting these villains captured. He even caused that portal-creating guy to kill himself. That was dark stuff! But now, after seeing him allow Sylar to kill "finger gun guy", he's nothing but totally evil. The man has no soul. I will never feel any empathy toward that guy again. And I still won't accept Sylar as a hero, unless he sacrafices his life to save someone. So they blew it. Okay. Rant over.
The part I really enjoyed was seeing how Mr. Petrelli fit into all of this. Good stuff.
I read in the Times that NBC stepped in and made Kring (sp?) fire a few head writers, including Jeph Loeb (who wrote the great Long Halloween story for Batman). So I think the rest of this season might be top-to-bottom revision of the entire Heroes universe.
I just hope none of this taints Sylar before we get to see him as Spock...
I'm not a fan of Sylar's acting when he's a good guy. I don't know if you're still watching, but the scenes with him and Elle were hard to watch. He's too "Leave It to Beaver". I don't think this will come out at all in his turn as Spock, though.
Is it ridiculous that the only visitor to this blog doesn't even watch Heroes anymore?
:-/
Dude...Heroes eats. The pilot I watched at Comic Con 2006 was boss, but they watered it down for tv. And it went downhill from there. At this point it's a detriment to the genre.
I'm only checking in to see if you've starting blogging about other shows I watch.
I loved the Life On Mars pilot, but the next few eps were too goofy, and now i'm 3 weeks behind. You watching?
Fringe is gaining traction. Last night's ep was the first one where I REALLY cared about the characters. It has promise, but Fox will surely whittle it down to a bland stump. You watching?
True Blood is my favorite drama on tv this fall. After YEARS of Buffyverse, I was very resistent to any new vampire stuff, but this show is better than I thought it would be after watching the pilot. You watching?
If you blog about next month's BSG webisodes, I'm sure you'll get 10+ replies per week.
One good thing about Heroes: It gave us a solid Spock!
I am watching Life on Mars, but it's not what I expected. Every week, they feel the need to continue this story arc with Sam trying to figure out why he's in the 70's and how to get back. For most shows (X-Files and Lost to name two), I would agree that's the way to go, but I think I'd enjoy this show more if the episodes just mimicked tried and true 70's cop show plots, and stuck Sam in the middle of them. I want him to have a sass-talkin' pimp for a snitch... I want crazy cameos from 70's football stars... I want Sam to protect the hooker with a heart of gold. Oh well, I'm still enjoying it.
I felt the same way about a new vampire show. And since I'm boycotting HBO over their cancellation of Carnivale, Deadwood and Rome, I'm afraid I'll have to pass on True Blood. Maybe I'll catch it one day on DVD, but not unless HBO actually lets the damn show wrap up loose ends. I wasted 5 years on Carnivale and Deadwood and have nothing to show for it except a pair of cliffhangers. Good luck getting a satisfying ending to True Blood!
