Lost: The Incident, Parts 1 & 2 (air date 05/13/2009)
Jack's decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him. Locke assigns Ben a difficult task.
I'm sure I'll have a lot to say tomorrow, but the two obvious things are... Locke is the guy from the beach in the very beginning, but who the hell is that guy? Is he the opposite of Jacob? Has this been some kind of eternal struggle between good and evil?
And I'm guessing that when Juliet triggered the bomb, it sent them all back to the present.
Not sure I love that Jacob manipulated Jack and the others onto the island. I guess they are what he meant by "they are coming". They are destined to bring down this evil Locke character. Maybe it would have been better just to chalk this all up to "destiny" rather than explain that destiny is Jacob. But maybe I just ned to get used to this new revelation.
Well, there goes my "Jack is Jacob" theory out the window.
At least I was in the ballpark last week with my Smokey/Locke stuff:
"...I'm drawing a distinction between 'reanimation' and 'formed out of thin air.' If somebody find's Locke's body still in the hold of that plane, than the Locke we see walking around is Smokey. If not, Locke is just reanimated by the island (like Christian Shepherd)."
I couldn't help but notice that Jacob, in the beginning of the episode, was wearing all white. The other dude who wanted to kill Jacob was wearing all black. But then every time we saw Jacob off the island, he was wearing black. And Smokey is, of course, all black. Hmmm....
Also, do we have any idea what's in that guitar case Jacob left for Hurley in the cab? Hurley carried it around all season, but did we ever see it open? Red herring?
It's interesting that every other time we've seen the "LOST" title card it was set in an all black background...until tonight's all white version at the end.
I honestly have no idea what next season will be like. So that alone makes this my favorite Lost finale ever.
The Rose and Bernard scene was cool...but weird.
Oh, and Miles still rules. The writers do a good job of using his character as the mouthpiece for the jaded, internet fanbase.
The finale was good, but I still hate the idea of a reboot for the final season. Its almost like saying everything we learned these past 5 seasons are out the window.
Predictions: -I think they set it up for Charlie to come back with the DS ring and the guitar. It will tie in with Claire's end story as she'll be back for the finale. -Juliet is gone. She wasn't visited by Jacob and we need her death to bring back the classic love triangle between Jack Kate Sawyer -Sayid will be back even though I think his story is pretty much wrapped up -I can't imagine we'll start up at the airport with them landing. I mean do you bring back all of the old cast and get another boy to play walt? I'm guessing we'll fast forward through some splintered alternate timeline.
Its good that they brought back the idea of white/black. Does it seem odd to anyone that Jacob only visits Kate, Sawyer, Ilana, Sun and Jin and Locke before they get to the island and everyone else is visited after they have gotten off the island.
Is it like each side picked pawns or are both sides manipulating the same pawns.
What is the loophole that allows the guy to kill Jacob? Just getting another human to do it?
Anyone online translated the answer to the question of what lies beneath the shadow of the statue?
Shunanimous caught something I didn't... and so did the people in my office. The fact that Jacob was wearing black when he visited everyone. I initially thought that Jacob was going around and handpicking the people he wanted to go to the island. But since he was wearing black, I don't think it was really Jacob. It was the evil guy. And when he touched those people (because he did touch each of them), he made each one of them a little darker... teaching Kate that she could get away with stealing, allowing Sawyer to finish the letter, etc. (Thanks to Mike R. for that part of the theory). If that's the case, then all of the "ghosts" that appear are probably the evil guy in disguise too. I'd really need to go back and analyze each appearance to be sure. Of course, why would Evil Guy need to look like Jacob when he meets these people? If the writers are simply trying to trick the audience, then that's kinda lame. In mythology, there is a common theme of good and evil being two sides of the same coin. Maybe Jacob and Evil Guy are actually the same schizophrenic being.
Did anyone notice if "Jacob" was wearing black when he went to talk to Iliana (sp?) all bandaged in the hospital? Is she on the island as an agent of Jacob, an agent of the evil guy, or does she just think she's an agent of Jacob?
I'm very disappointed in the outcome of Locke's storyline. If he is indeed dead, then that's a real dud of a destiny. Maybe there's a chance that some of Locke is still "alive" inside this new evil version. Not sure what the science is there. It's definitely a cliche in the sci-fi world, but it beats Locke being a class A sucker.
So what happens when Locke and Ben pop out of the statue and Locke's body is lying in the sand. How does Evil Locke explain his way ouit of that one? I think Evil Locke is going to come clean to Ben, and reveal his true identity. He'll convince Ben to follow him, then emerge from the statue as Jacob. "Jacob" will declare Ben the new leader, and say that Locke failed somehow, or that Locke was an imposter. Not sure anyone would buy that, but I got nothing else.
You might be right about the colors... but even if they are dark colors, it might still back up my theory.
Think about this. Evil guy manipulates everyone so eventually Ben will kill Jacob. But first he needs to corrupt Ben and make him lose his innocence. So how will he do that? He sends Sayid over the edge by manipulating his wife's death, Sayid shoots Ben because he blames Ben for everything that has happened. Jack can save Ben, but he's been so jaded by what has happened that he decides to let Ben die, which leads Kate to bring Ben to the temple where he loses his innocence. Evil Guy has performed a mass manipulation ("you wouldn't believe what I went through to find the loophole") in order to kill Jacob.
Those people carrying the crate kept talking about "a candidate"... a candidate for what? A candidate to be a new body for Jacob? Maybe, when Jacob dies, he just inhabits a new body. What if he jumps into dead Locke's body and we have Locke vs. Locke next season? Not sure why The Other Guy can mimic bodies though.
I just rewardhed most of the episode. 1st apearance, jacob was wearing a blue and white plaid shirt. 2nd black suit - sawyer, then dark brown shirt - sayid, then black trench coat with black pants and gloves - iliana, black sport coat - jack, black sport coat - hurley. Dark brown shirt - Locke. I think it had to be the "bad" guy (darkie) who rounded everyone up off the island. And upon rewardhing it is completely obvious that living Locke is darkie. Things h says and the way he reacts to things are very unlike Locke.
I'm backing off the theory that The Man in Black was disguised as Jacob when visiting Young Kate and the others. If he was wearing a white shirt for one of the visits, it violates the whole premise.
I'm going back to my theory that Jacob and the Man in Black are the same being. Two sides of the same coin. Mark it down!

That's all I got for tonight.

Oh the translation is something like he will protect us

Even if the future is changed, I think in some ways, what happened happened, but maybe just not for the Lostees.
We did find out how Dr Marvin Candle lost his arm...
I'm not convinced Jacob was wearing black off island, maybe in one scene but not all. I recall brown and other colors.

Sorry about typos, wrote this on an iPhone. Rewardhed = rewatched.
Here's the book that Jacob (or Jacob imposter?) was reading when Locke fell out of the window:
BookHere's the dialogue from the beginning of the episode between Jacob (in white) and the other guy (in black):
Black: “Morning”
White: “Morning”
Black: “Mind if I join you?”
White: “Please. Want some fish?”
Black: “Thank you. I just ate.”
White: “I take it you’re here because of the ship.”
Black: “I am. How did they find the island?”
White: “You’ll have to ask them when they get here.”
Black: “I don’t have to ask; you brought them here. Still trying to prove me wrong, aren’t you?”
White: “You ARE wrong.”
Black: “Am I? They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.”
White: “If it only happens once, anything that happens before that is just progress.”
(music takes ominous turn)
Black: “You have any idea how badly I want to kill you?”
White: “Yes”
Black: “One of these days, sooner or later, we’re gonna find a loophole, my friend.”
White: “Well when you do I’ll be right here.”
Black: “Always nice talking to you, Jacob.”
White: “Nice talking to you too.”
Black walks off, camera pulls back to focus on statue.
