Lost: One of Us (air date 4/11/07)

The celebration of Jack's return is cut short when he arrives at the beach with an Other, Juliet, whose flashbacks pick up from where they left off, showing us how she got onto the island and became an Other. Meanwhile, Claire is threatened by a strange illness.

This was a great episode. I was really hoping for a lot of answers from Juliet, but we all knew that wasn't going to happen. At least, the Losties finally asked the questions. And I thought the writers did a good job of keeping the answers from us and making it believable. I was disappointed that Jack could be duped so easily... until he gave Juliet his explanation of why he trusted her... the look on her face after the sub blew up. He's still a fool, but at least I believed it.

And I didn't see the ending coming. Maybe I'm the fool, but they tricked me as well as the survivors. Not sure why they implanted Claire with a deadly device that they could trigger, but hopefully we'll get an explanation about that one.

Why do you think Juliet is betraying Jack? To get off the island? Do they have more than one sub? Why the hell does Ben want her to infiltrate, and why will he "see her in 1 week"? Good stuff.

Oh, and the episode answered a big question I had concerning Ben...

Q. After learning he has a tumor, why would Ben send his only surgeon (Ethan) on a scouting mission to infiltrate the survivors?

A. He sent 2 surgeons, because he put his people's needs before his own. He was hoping to find a pregnant woman and he needed a doctor to infiltrate the groups. I guess he no longer trusted Juliet, or he could have used her.

Absolutely.

"Why the hell does Ben want her to infiltrate?"

Pregnant Sun? Desmond's power? Clare's baby?

They are TOTALLY setting the season cliffhanger up to be Juliet (who rules, by the way) having to choose between Jack and Ben.

Oh, did you notice the comment the guy made to Juliet at the airport about "time flying" or something? Does time flow differently on the island than the rest of the world?

I've noticed a bunch of characters reading books about time travel this season, everything from "A Wrinkle In Time" to "A brief History Of Time." Probably a red herring, but I'm hoping not :^)

I did hear the time comment, and I think the producers are messing with us. They read the theories online, and they know that people are talking about this "time travelling at a different rate" theory. They did the same thing last season when Hurley was listening to the radio, and a really old song came on. He said "maybe it's coming from another time... just kidding dude". Either that, or they're real clues... in which case the show will lose half of it's audience when time bubbles are introduced.

I'm getting tired of Ben knowing EVERYTHING that happens everywhere in the universe. Do we have an explanation of how Ben would know about this stuff, or are we just assuming at this point that Ben knows everything? It's quite possible there is a logical reason, but I've just forgotten.

And I agree about the cliffhanger... Juliet is forced to choose. My wife said the same thing.

The was also the other instance where Ben pointed at the camera and told Juliet, look at today's date. I get that he was trying to tell her that it wasn't faked footage, but I think there might have been more to it.

I thought the episode was great too. It gave us a ton of answers and then turned it around on us to make us question if any of it was true.

So let's analyze shall we.

We know the women on the island have some kind of problem that occurs at conception. That was in Juliet's backstory so she couldn't lie about that. I've always asserted that it was Claire who was special and not the child. Now the question becomes, was Sun impregnated on the island or just before she left...

We're left to understand the medicine was a hoax, but it would have tied in well with Charlie giving aaron the medicine last season, but that wouldn't explain why Desmond kept taking it.

Now if they were studying Claire, why did Ethan imply he didn't have enough medicine for her in her abduction backstory? Also why would Alex try to free Claire if she knew that Claire might be the key to curing the fertility problem of the women on the island?

Juliet was the lover of Goodwin and the Tailies killed Goodwin. Could Juliet have another motive for eliminating the Losties besides the need to leave the island.

This is how I see things happening. Jack is role reversing with Juliet. He knows she was befriending him when he was the captive so he would trust her, but he knew what was up and betrayed her by ratting her out to Tom. Now he knows he needs to do the same thing to her now that she's in his camp. I think he knows full well that she's still an other.

I think the Season Finale will be Lostees v Others. I'm worried we're going to switch locales next season and par down the background survivors.

Oh Yeah, totally inconsistencies with the Lost Experience. I thought the baby turned out to be a little girl in the Lost Experience clip. Now its revealed it was a boy. That's a shame, makes you just want to discount the whole Lost experience altogether since almost none of it has tied to the series in any significant way yet.

That also begs the question, is Juliette Dharma since they sent her to the island or is this post overthrow of Dharma? Does Herarat airlines mean anything? Earth, HA?

There could easily be hidden mics and/or cameras in the losties camp. That would need to be the explanation if Ben is after Sun's baby. Ditto if he's after Desmond (though Locke could have also spilled the beans about Des). And Clare's baby is common knowledge. As for the stuff off the island, the one-eye guy seemed to be all over that.

But how did Juliet know Sawyer shot a guy the day before he boarded the plane? Were the others tracking the people on flight 815 long before they boarded? Did Sawyer tell Jack's father in that pub in Australia, and maybe Jack's father is still alive and working for the others? Is Jack's father "Jacob"? Or maybe Jacob is the magic box that Ben told Locke about, and JACOB is an acronym...?

Is Jacob the guy who recruited Juliet? That guy seems to have the power to make things happen with his mind, not unlike Walt. Maybe Jacob is just a fictional persona that Ben created...

Hey, did Roseau have Alex on the island? Didn't she mention a "sickness" on the island back in season 1? So was Roseau able to have Alex because she was in quarantine, or because Ben (who was born on the island) is the father? Does that mean Alex is carrying a cure?

I'll dive into the depths of blogs and talkbacks to find some "Herarat Airlines" theories. I noticed the name right away, and paused the show to try to figure it out. I got nothing...

Not if they wait until the final episodes of the series for the big reveal :^)

Wow... so many questions raised, and i only have an answer for one.

Quick... to the anagram board (insert action music here).

"Herarat" is an anagram of Earhart. Are they implying that Amelia Earhart crashed on this island? Maybe she discovered it. Or maybe they're just being clever.

I like Silas' theory that the Others may have impregnated Sun (is that what you were getting at Silas?). Then, they would obviously know about her pregnancy. It would also show how morally bankrupt they are, since they know this is a death sentance for Sun. Unfortunately, with the pace this show travels, Sun won't have her baby until the summer of 2150... our time.

Final episode of the series... Walt shows up on the island with a rescue team... age 21... played by the same actor. The end. Classic.

Here's something great I found on another site:

"Hera = The queen of the Olympian deities. She is a daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and wife and sister of Zeus. Hera was mainly worshipped as a goddess of marriage and birth. It is said that each year Hera's virginity returns by bathing in the well Canathus. The children of Hera and Zeus are the smith-god Hephaestus, the goddess of youth Hebe, and the god of war Ares. According to some sources, however, her children were conceived without the help of a man, either by slapping her hand on the ground or by eating lettuce: thus they were born, not out of love but out of lust and hatred.

ARARAT = It is claimed by a number of Biblical literalists that an anomaly on this mountain in Turkey is the remains of Noah's Ark. The Ark thing I would think refers to the gathering of creatures/beings/peoples to fend off extinction during an apocalyptic event.

Of course, 'Herarat' is an anagram for 'Earhart' (Amelia). You know, the pilot who disappeared while flying..."

I can't speak to the validity of the information above, but it sounds solid. If the Lost writers start going into Greek mythology, we could have some Galactica overlap... Maybe Ben is a Cylon, and the others are the last remaining members of the lost 13th colony.

Hmm, Earhart, I like it. I think the writers are back on their game this last couple of weeks.

A little non-spoiler. The writers asked Michael to return and but he said no, most speculate due to his schedule, not to any conflict with the people at lost.

So I was talking to a friend who said that now we know that one of the monster sounds is the monster hitting the fence. He said the writers said that the sound was something any person who lived in a big city would be used to... so I think they meant an alarm (like a car alarm). My guess is at one point or another the characters trigger some kind security system which triggers the monster. Why it doesn't alway kill, I don't know.

I just remembered something, the whispers, we've been around the others for a while and they haven't come up once. I don't think they've come up at all this season. Sickness, whispers, black v white, so many elements that were introduced we haven't seen come into play at all this season.
