Wow! Lots to talk about. Do we all agree that Ben is teleporting? But is he also travelling in time? He did ask the girl at the hotel what the date was, then the year. But is he purposely travelling in time, or is that a side effect of the teleport? And if he IS travelling in time, what year did Ben come from? I almost got the feeling that when Ben ran into his secret room in the present (and called smokey), he also jumped into the teleporter.

Okay, so Alex is killed, Ben is shocked, then he says "He changed the rules". To me, it seemed as if Ben was completely shocked that Alex was killed... as if he knew it wouldn't happen. I think Ben knew the future... maybe not the future of that exact moment, but maybe just knew that Alex doesn't die here and now... maybe she's supposed to live into her 80's or something. This is why he's in complete shock. And by "changing the rules", he means that Widmore has somehow figured out how to change time (because in previous episodes, it's been said over and over hat the future cannot be changed). Also, when Ben confronts Widmore, Widmore doesn't seem to understand what he's talking about. Maybe Desmond is the one responsible for "changing the rules". He did seem to prevent Charlie's death on a number of occasions.

But forget about this. The most mind-boggling part of the show was when the doctor washed up on shore. And then when Faraday lies about the morse code transmission, and the real transmission says "What are you talking about. The doctor is fine."!!! So the doc is alive on the ship but dead on the island. This is getting bizarre. Okay... more bizarre.

So Sayid tracks down his girlfriend from long ago. Nice touch. Do you think Ben killed her just so he could manipulate Sayid? I LOVE how Ben is looking more and more like "the good guy", but is sooooo not a good guy.

What's up with Jack's stomach? Appendicitis? Maybe they're trying to come up with a reason why Jack would leave the island and some of his people behind. If his appendix had burst and he was about to die, that would be a pretty good reason.

Boy, Locke and the gang didn't shed a single tear over any of the red shirts who got shot, but Claire gets a little scrape and boo hoo hoo.

The battle with smokey was AWESOME! I believe Ben when he says that he doesn't know what Smokey is.

Silas will like this. Did anyone notice the lighting when Ben and Widmore were talking? Half of Ben's face was in shadow, and the other half of Widmore's face was in shadow. The black and the white finally return.

Oooh... Jen just gave me an idea. What if, Ben can't help travelling in time when he uses the teleporter. It has to do with the time shift between the outside world and the island. If you use the proper heading and sail off the island, you can return to the outside world without a time shift (or maybe a slight time shift). If you don't use the proper heading (I'm assuming teleporting is not the proper heading), you end up in the future. So Ben didn't target 2005, that was his only choice. This also leads me to believe that he killed Sayid's wife and wasn't just capitalizing on an event that he knew about.

Good stuff. Anything else?

One more thing. Why can't Ben kill Widmore...

Widmore: "So, did you come here to kill me?"

Ben: "We both know I can't do that."

Is there any significance to the line Hurley delivers while playing Risk... "Australia is the key to the whole game."?

Someone online thinks that Ben IS Smokey. Didn't we see Smokey come up to young Ben at one point?

Why was Ben wearing a winter coat when he teleported? Did he come from a cold place (not the island), or is teleportation itself a "cold experience"?

Anyone catch the logo on his coat? Is that a new station logo? THe name on the coat was Halliwax. That sounds awefully familiar. Did we ever meet a Halliwax?

I just found out who Halliwax is... Dr. Marvin Candle. I'm sure most of you knew that. My memory is faulty. But what about this? Ben had an arm injury after he teleported. Halliwax LOST his arm at some point. Did he lose it in a teleportation accident?

Tap, tap... is this thing on?

Lost is definitely much better this season though I still feel like I can't get wrapped up in the mythology or else I'll start to get really frustrated again.

My first thought on the Ben/Widmore meeting was the light/dark. Widmore was illuminated and Ben was in the shadows.

I'm sad if Danielle really is gone. We still need her backstory! Alex was really used well to propel the story and really brings up a great conflict between Desmond and Ben.

I don't want to believe in the whole time travel/teleportation business, but unless they prove its happening, I'm just going to assuming the writers are misdirecting.

I do think Ben controls Smokey. I bet even Juliet knows whats up with Smokey. Like Danielle said, its a security system.

I do like that Ben also doesn't know where the island is and will be searching for it next season.

I still don't believe we know the 6th survivor. I fail to believe Aaron counts.

i like your "changing the rules" theory with regards to ben's shock after alex's death. so maybe that's why he can't kill widmore, because widmore's premature death will somehow hurt ben (or the island) down the line.

so if ben seems to be teleporting, where was he that required a heavy coat? not on the island. but remember that last scene in season 2 where those dudes at the arctic research station get a blip on the radar (or something) after the station is blown. maybe they work for penny, and maybe she went there, and maybe that's where ben kills her (getting shot in the arm in the process).

does jack have appendicitis (or an ulcer), or is he the first victem of the "island sickness" that was kinda swept under the rug but is only now emerging?

"the doctor is fine." assuming it's not a blatant lie, is it because of the time difference on/off the island? are we assuming that the time differential is fixed, or does it speed up and slow down depending on some unknown island variable? no doubt we'll see a scene later this season where the doctor is killed and thrown overboard.

i don't think ben is the nano/smoke monster, nor do i think he has total control over it...but he knows how to summon it. remember the season 2 episode where locke sees the invisotext map? wasn't there something on that about "cerberus" or "the guardian" or something?
